Spooktacular Events This Week

From Hilton Head Island to Savannah, spooktakular and frightingly fun events abound this week.

BEAUFORT

 

Trick-or-treat in downtown Beaufort
(and stick around for a movie)

When/Where: Kids will be able to visit downtown businesses in the spirit of the spooky season for goodies from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Oct. 28.
Info: This year's annual trick-or-treating session is back in downtown Beaufort and will be paired with this month's movie in the park, Casper. The movie will begin in the Watefront Park. Various food specials will be dished up for kids too, details on that closer to the event.

 

 

18th Annual Ghost Tours in Beaufort

When/Where: 6:30-7:30 p.m. Oct. 30 in downtown Beaufort. Meet at 1006 Bay St.
Info: Take a carriage ride or walking tour through the moss lined streets of Beaufort's historic district while listening to storytellers tell haunting tales of the area. Watch for "things that go bump in the night." The Exchange Club's ghost tours benefit the Child Abuse Prevention Association (CAPA).
Cost: Carriage Tour: $20 per adult and $10 per child (ages 3-11). Walking Tour: $12 all ages (only offered on Oct. 22, 23, 28, 29 and 30). Reservations strongly recommended.

BLUFFTON/HILTON HEAD

 

Mythical Monsters

When/Where: 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27 at the Bluffton branch of the Beaufort County Library
Info: A local naturalist will help children and their parents decide whether mythical monsters such as the Lizard Man and Bigfoot are fact or fiction.

Ghost Stories on the Porch

When/Where: 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28 at the Bluffton branch of the Beaufort County Library
Info: After the sun goes down, join storyteller Chris Soucy on the library’s screened porch for tales of ghostly happenings in Old Town Bluffton. Adults and teens age 16 and older only.

Second annual Halloween Horse Show for the Lowcountry Equestrian Team

When/Where: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30 at Lawton Stables in Sea Pines Plantation
Info: The event will include a horse show, costume class, horseless horse show, pony rides, pumpkin painting, face painting, Halloween tattoos, hayrides and a scavenger hunt.
Cost: There is no admission fee, but there is a $10 fee per activity listed above.

Island Rec Center Pumpkin Patch

The Mall at Shelter Cove

The Sandbox

Sea Pines Forest Preserve Hayrides

Rides will take place from 1-2 p.m. and 2:15-3:15 p.m. Oct. 30-31 at the Sea Pines Forest Preserve. Children will listen to spooky stories and visit the The Sea Pines Resort Pumpkin Patch. Cost is $10 per adult and $8 per child (12 and under) for Sea Pines property owners and guests, and $12 per adult and $10 per child for all others. Reservations are required. Coligny Plaza

Hosting a Halloween party from 4-8 p.m. Oct. 28, featuring Tail-Waggers’ annual pet contest at 5 p.m.; a Family Costume Contest at 5:30 p.m.; and a hot dog eating contest at 6:30 p.m. There will also be trick-or-treating at participating shops and restaurants, a free photo booth, ghost stories, a giant shark slide and obstacle course, food, candy and more. “South Carolina Scarecrow Walkabout”

This walking tour of the Sea Pines Forest Preserve offers a look at local student-created scarecrows based on a South Carolina theme. Other activities include pumpkin painting (participants are asked to bring their own pumpkins) and Gullah storytelling. The event takes place from 1-3 p.m. Oct. 23 at the Forest Preserve / Fish Island and benefits the Preserve. Tickets are $5 per family and will be sold at the event. Tanger Outlet Centers 1

The shopping center will host a Halloween / Harvest Festival and trick-or-treating for children under 12 at participating stores from 1-3 p.m. Oct. 30. The Sandbox — An Interactive Children’s Museum will be in the courtyard offering arts and crafts, and music will be provided by DJ Allen Pallchak from Hilton Head Entertainment.

The Salty Dog Cafe

The Great Pumpkin Patch

When/Where: Opens Oct. 1st until Oct. 31 at Holiday Farms, 10884 Grays Hwy in Ridgeland, SC 29936; located 10 miles west of Ridgeland and 20 miles east of Hampton on U.S. 278
Info: Daytime tours are available, as well as a night ride with wiener and marshmallow roast. Other activities include barrel racing, hay rides, bounce house, barnyard zoo

SAVANNAH

 

Halloween Hike

When/Where: 5-8 p.m. Oct. 29-30 at the Oatland Island Wildlife Center
Info: Back by popular demand! The Halloween Hike for the little ones. This event is not too scary and a lot of fun. Take your little trick or treater on the “Friendly Forest” trail and meet some lovable characters along the way. Enjoy stories told by Mother Goose in Oatland’s charming barn, crafts, snacks and a fossil hunt. A hay ride will complete your adventure. Other activities and concessions by the Friends of Oatland will be available.
Cost: $7 per child and $5 per adult. Treat bags will be provided.

 

 

Fall-O-Ween Festival

When/Where: Oct. 29-30 at Skidaway Island State Park
Info: On Friday and Saturday nights, come out for a haunted chilling trail. On Saturday, come out for an afternoon of spooktacular kids crafts, a pumpkin decorating contest, hayrides, food, family fun games and trick-or-treating. Register before Oct. 24 for trick-or-treating.
Cost: $5 parking.

Trick or Treat and More at Roundhouse Railroad Museum

When/Where: 10-11:30 a.m. Oct. 30 at the Roundhouse Railroad Museum in Savannah
Info: Come listen to Halloween-themed stories, decorate pumpkins and your own goody bag, take a ride on the train, and Trick-or-Treat throughout the Roundhouse.
Cost: $10 + Regular Adult Admission

The 13th Annual Trick or Trot 5K and 10K Run/Walk Road Race

When/Where: Oct. 30 at May Howard Elementary School on Wilmington Island
Info: The event is organized by Savannah Sunrise Rotary Club. Proceeds benefit three Savannah charities. The Midtown Community Center, West Broad Street YMCA, and SAFE Shelter. Special activities include children’s events.
