Imagination Hour at The Sandbox

Fused Glass: Exploring Glass as Art
When/Where:
4 to 5:30 p.m. Dec. 4-6 and Dec. 11-13 at the ARTworks community arts center of Beaufort, 2127 Boundary St., Suite 18A.
Info.: This class will give students, aged 12-16, an opportunity to explore glass as art as they learn how to cut and assemble various projects including glass bugs, tiles and bowls. The class will be taught by Greg Rawls and will discuss different types of glass, safety, the science of glass fusing and the amazing potential of fused glass. Glass fusing is the process of using a kiln to join together pieces of glass with heat.
Cost: $50 for all six classes. Scholarships and family discounts are available.

Ornament Creations
When/Where:
4 to 5:30 p.m. Dec. 4-6 and Dec. 11-13 at the ARTworks community arts center of Beaufort , 2127 Boundary St., Suite 18A.
Info.: Students, aged 6-9, will have the opportunity to use their imaginations and the glitter and glam of sequins, ribbons and beads, to create unique and wonderful ornaments ideal for gift giving - keepsakes that can be treasured for many years! This class will be led by Jean Norton-Torjussen.

Info: Fitness program featuring drills and games; for Ages 6-12; Cardio Tennis Kids emphasizes movement and fun using music and pedometers. Using age-appropriate equipment, the program aims to develop tennis and athletic skills while improving health and fitness. Each class runs 30-45 minutes, depending on age.

Night pun deseyuh iland: a Gullah Night On the Town

: his event is a holiday potluck with festivities to celebrate Gullah culture. The library will close for business and participants are invited to join the staff in the Community Meeting Room to meet a special holiday guest who will read “Gullah Night Before Christmas” by Virginia Geraty and the community can share in a potluck feast. Sign up is not required but would be appreciated to inform which side dish a participant may bring. This event is sponsored by the “Beaufort Friends of the Library” and the “Red Piano Too Art Gallery.” Open to all, but children under the age of 8 must be accompanied by an adult.

Hilton Head Island Winter Wonder Festival
When/Where:
4 to 8 p.m. Dec. 14 and 15 at Hilton Head Island's Shelter Cove Park.
Info.: Start off your holiday season with a fun-filled afternoon or two of Southern winter activities with Santa Claus! For ages 2-15, activities include moon bounces, carnival games, winter hayride, face painting, arts and crafts, tree decorating and live performances. A super exciting Golden Candy Cane Hunt will be held at 4:30 p.m. on both days. Concessions will be available for purchase - hot chocolate, s’mores, hot dogs, pizza and much more.
Cost: The cost is $10 per child (includes most activities). Parents are free and must remain with their children. All proceeds benefit the Hilton Head Island Recreation Association Children’s Scholarship Fund. Event sponosred by Pink Magazine.

Animals of the Lowcountry at Museum
When/Where:
10:30 and 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 27 at The Coastal Discovery Museum, 70 Honey Horn Drive on Hilton Head Island.
Info.: The Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn will present “Animals of the Lowcountry” from Oatland Island Wildlife Center featuring many live animals not often seen on Hilton Head. Some of the animals in the program will include the barred owl, corn snake, opossum, alligator and more!

Beach Walks
When/Where:
2 p.m. Tuesdays at Mitchelville Beach, Hilton Head Island.
Info.: Coastal Discovery Museum presents these beach walks to answer the questions like “who lives in those holes in the sand?” “What fossil can you find at the beach?” “Why do turtles dig in the dark?” A docent will lead guests on an exploration of the marine environment.

Lawton Stables, located in Sea Pines Plantation
When/Where: Lawton Stables, 190 Greenwood Drive, Hilton Head Island, SC 29928. The farm's operating hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. everyday except Christmas.
Info: For a day out, bring all the family to visit the small animal farm with a collection of goats, sheep, donkeys, pot-bellied pigs, chickens, rabbits and even a llama (not sure if it’s a drama-free llama or not). Leave your own pets at home when visiting the animal farm and only feed the animals the approved food provided by the Stables.

A Not So Silent Night Christmas

Info.: Because storytelling is a gift, the Uncalled For Trio will be back in Port Royal with their 2012 "A Not So Silent Night Christmas" storytelling tour. Storytellers Bil Lepp, Kim Weitkamp and Andy Irwin will share new stories and songs, and all the ho-ho-ho hilarity you can stand. Bil Lepp is a nationally renowned storyteller, a five time champion of the West Virginia Liars’ Contest and the headliner at the 2013 BIG Story Fest & Liars Competition in Beaufort. Kim Weitkamp is a recipient of two Storytelling World Awards, and graces the stages of theaters and festivals throughout the continent. A recipient of numerous awards, Andy Offut, has toured with the Kandinsky Trio and performed with the comedic troupe SAK Theatre at Walt Disney World. This merriment is sponsored by the Town of Port Royal and produced by ARTworks.
Cost: $8 for adults and $4 for students (up to age 21) and children. All tickets are sold at the door only.
