Lowcountry Child is devoted to babies, toddlers, preschoolers, big kids, parents, grandparents and anyone else who can make a difference in a child's life. The Web site offers up-to-date information on local events and activities, as well as a complete medical directory from Hilton Head Island to Savannah. But it’s Lowcountry Child’s how-to articles, fun and affordable crafts, videos and timely features that keep bringing Internet users back for more.

Founder

Heather Bragg, a former newspaper and magazine reporter and editor, began planning the family-focused Web site in 2008 as she and her husband settled into their first home in Bluffton. When she learned she was pregnant, the clear need to find local resources took on new urgency. With her six-month-old son, Griffin, now setting a vigorous daily agenda, Heather is even more aware of the relentless necessity for busy parents and grandparents to find good local information about everything family in one convenient place. Heather has worked for small and large publications in the Lowcountry and throughout the Midwest, doing reporting, feature writing, editing, graphic design, marketing and Web site development.

Contributors

Lowcountry Child offers well-researched information that directly affects area families. Most of our articles are written by local professionals, many of whom are parents passionate about the topics they're writing about. We're parents writing for other parents.

Laura Jacobi, mother of 21-month-old Cole, has a background in writing, editing and marketing. She has jump-started several projects involving local families and children, including Newspapers in Education, a program which encourages reading and current events by bringing newspapers into the classroom, and The Beaufort Gazette’s and The Island Packet’s online family Web site. To contact Laura, e-mail laura@lowcountrychild.com.

David Jakubiak, father to soon-to-be toddler Aiden, is a freelance journalist and children’s writer who has written for publications ranging from the Chicago Sun-Times to Hilton Head Monthly. He formerly worked as the environmental reporter for the Hilton Head Island Packet, and now lives outside of Chicago. He misses the Lowcountry something terrible. To contact David, e-mail him at djakubiak11@gmail.com.
